Badugi is a game of gambling played with the intention of winning the amount in the pot. It is also one of the variants of draw poker which is similar to the triple draw, and the hand values alike lowball. The other names for badugi are paduki, basougi, and padooki. The overall play and the betting structure is the same as in the standard poker game. At shutdown (the end of the play), the person with the best badugi hand is the winner of the game.

The Strategy of the play

Many strategic concepts used in the draw can also be applied to badugi. In the same way badugi shares some tactical similarities with the other draw poker forms. As in other card games which follows a fixed form of play, position is an important factor in the badugi strategy. The one who has the opportunity to act last can be able to observe the other players action and will have the opportunity to bluff. The last player can even find out the strength of their own hands. Another strategy of badugi involves the count of people per table.

If there is more number of people in the table, then there is a high chance for the play to be a four card badugi. If the table contains 6 players, then it is not advisable to bluff with 3 or 2 card hand. But bluffing becomes effective when the play begins with 4 or fewer people per table. In the first round if the player is having a 3 card badugi, then the odd of making it as a 4 card badugi using final draw is 51%.
